Art FAQ

Q: What are the qualifications of your staff?
A: Kim Greene, Bright Horse Art Director, holds a Bachelors Degree in Fine Art and has been teaching children art for over eight years. Kim teaches the majority of Bright Horse art classes and camps. All Bright Horse instructors are required to hold a degree in art and have at least two years of experience teaching children.
Q: What is the instructor to child ratio of your classes?
A: For art classes our ratio is 10:1.
Q: How early can we arrive to class?
A: 15 minutes early is acceptable. You can arrange to arrive earlier if your child needs to complete the previous week’s lesson before class.
Q: What should my child bring to class?
A: Your child does not need to bring anything to class. Please leave all toys, food and drinks at home.
Q: Is there a registration fee?
A: Yes. There is a $20.00 annual registration fee per family.
Q: What will my child create in art class?
A: Our art classes focus on teaching real art skills that will last a lifetime. This is a teacher directed class that focuses on drawing things that kids universally love such as animals, architecture, people, insects, and movie characters. The drawings are completed using a variety of media including oil pastel, watercolor paint, markers, chalk pastel, charcoal and colored pencil.
Q: Does my child need prior experience?
A: No prior experience is needed. The step-by-step structure and gentle teaching style encourage youngsters to be confident and have fun in a non-competitive atmosphere.
Q: How long does the class run?
A: Classes are available from September to May, after school and weekends. Parents are required to pay for one month at a time on the first class day of the month. Only payment will hold a seat for your child. Students are encouraged to join and stay though the duration of the year and can pay for as many months in advance as they wish to hold their place.
Q: Are there any discounts?
A: Yes! Siblings take 10% off one child’s class fee per pair. A group of five children registering at the same time can take 15% of each child’s class fee as long as the same group of five stay enrolled. Sibling discounts and group discounts cannot be combined.
Q: Is there an art show?
A: Yes! At the end of the year there is an art show displaying one piece per registered child at a local venue. Each piece of selected artwork will be attractively matted and given to the child at the end of the art show. An art reception will be held in honor of the students to celebrate the successful year.
