The children asked and we delivered! This year we are creating even more continuity between our morning horse camps and afternoon art camps. Children who stay with us all day really enjoy this concept. We are also now including more bareback riding in our camps. There will be opportunities to ride a pony or horse every day except Monday.

Horses of the World

Our Bright Horses hail from all corners of the globe! This week we will celebrate the heritage of the horses that live on our farm as well as ride in the styles of their country of origin.

June 13–17

Afternoon Art Camp
Vive La France!

Start the summer off right with a healthy dose of joie de vivre! at Bright Horse Farm! This week’s camp will celebrate some of the fine cultural pleasures France has to offer. Campers will learn about a different French artist each day while listening to lively French music and enjoy a special opportunity on Thursday to try their hand at painting en plein air. We’ll also investigate French cuisine by preparing simple yet elegant hors d'œuvre to be served on Friday (4:00-5:00) at our indoor art reception. Berets are recommended but not required.

Horse Camp

We're Really Riding Now!

This camp will be a traditional horse camp in the manner of our riding school. Each day, beginning and Intermediate riders will tack up and ride in a semi-private riding lesson. We’ll set goals for each rider and give specific guidance to help meet individual goals. After we ride we will experientially learn about stable management, show grooming and equine nutrition.

June 20–24
Afternoon Art Camp
Horse Crazy

Does your child have horses on the brain? Campers will be encouraged to investigate their obsession by learning how to draw horses, create horse related crafts, play organized horse inspired games, journal about fun horse facts and bake horse treats while real live horses graze serenely in a pasture just beyond a shaded outdoor play area. Prognosis: Horse Crazy!

Clay

Roll up your sleeves! Children love our clay classes and camps because they get to wedge, roll, coil, slab, paddle, pinch, cut and press their way through clay projects that they choose themselves by voting and get downright messy while doing it! Parents love the sense of accomplishment they see growing in their child each day as fine motor skills are honed and self-confidence blossoms. Everyone, returning campers and newcomers, will be challenged at a level appropriate to their age and skill level.

American Girl Doll Art School

This year’s camp offers American Girl Doll enthusiasts a rare opportunity to join a week long “art school” inspired by the books that have brought these dolls to life for your child. Campers will learn to draw, collage, paint and sculpt objects of a refined nature that appeal to the specific time periods of 5 dolls. Period based art lessons will include landscape painting, flower still life, pet-portraits, ink-brush calligraphy and a special cameo portrait of the doll of the year! Additionally, we’ll spend our time in preparation for the indoor art reception on Friday for family and friends by creating invitations and baking!

Morning Horse Camp

Unicorns Among Us

The rolling hills and shady forests of our 30 acre farm are the perfect habitat for growing your child’s imagination. As we ride we will search for these rare creatures, discuss the legends and fancifully decorate and parade our camp horses as unicorns on Friday. Beginning and Intermediate riders will learn trail riding skills in this camp.

Afternoon Art Camp

Land of Enchantment

Shady groves, dappled sunshine and Chatham County’s famous boulders create the perfect backdrop for imaginative campers with an eye for all things whimsical and magical. This week campers will learn to draw faeries, gnomes, castles and more.  Additionally, we’ll create fun crafts each day indoors as well as fairy dwellings outside on Friday using materials from nature to encourage imaginations and creative play to finish off the week.

The end result will be a useful yet beautiful cook’s companion that can be added to and expanded for years to come!
