Grade Levels

I: Grades K-2

Students are taught to render what they see in a quiet, gentle, non-judgmental manner, which encourages them to refine their fine motor skills, while enjoying the freedom of creative expression. Week after week, they will turn out wonderful, representational drawings that are typically well beyond the expected developmental level for their age. In addition to incredible success with their drawings they will learn how to finish their work using a variety of media such as marker, oil pastel, chalk pastel, watercolor paint, charcoal and more. Students should be able to write their own name and take direction in a classroom setting.

Minimum Class 4 / Maximum Class 8

II: Grades 3-5

This class is for the student that not only enjoys drawing but who is willing to take direction and learn advanced techniques. Although we draw from lessons similar in content to the younger class this group will additionally investigate greater detail in both line and color. An introduction to drawing from still life as well as increased focus on shading, perspective, and proportion allows children of this age to consider artistically interpreting the world around them.

Minimum Class 4 / Maximum Class 8

III: Grades 6-8

In this group we create images drawn from literature and the world around us while learning the essential principles of art and design. Guidance and encouragement is plentiful as these young adults venture into their own artistic interests and discover deeper levels of self-understanding. Students will explore the challenges of light and shade, perspective and proportions of the human form using charcoal, graphite, watercolor, oil pastel, chalk pastel, colored pencil and much more.
